Once your pet has had their teeth checked by the vet here are some things you can do from home that will make all the difference in the world to your pet’s smile.
Here are our top tips:
GET YOUR PET CHEWING!
Every mouthful your pet takes should be hard work! Think of what our pets would eat in the wild – chewy, sinewy food that requires ripping, tearing and crunching. This is the natural way and best way to clean the teeth.
BRUSH THOSE PEARLY WHITES
Believe it or not, this is considered gold standard in home care. PET GUARDIANS has finger brushes that enable you to get into the hard to reach places and pet friendly toothpaste that is palatable for your fur friend. Keep in mind that it can take a few months for your pet to get used to the idea. Daily brushing is recommended (in an ideal world) however a couple of times a week is better than no brushing at all!
Remember that you should NEVER use human toothpaste on your pets
Products such as Healthy Mouth or Aquadent are a great addition to brushing and keep your pet's mouth clean during the day. Simply add the suggested amount to your pet's water bowl daily. We recommend working up to the recommended dose as some pets will turn their nose up if their water suddenly smells different.
Next week we will be posting all about a routine dental procedure when your pet needs a scale and polish.
