What is Previcox?
Previcox is a type of veterinary-prescribed pain reliever called an NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that your veterinarian may prescribe for your dog to help treat the pain and inflammation associated with Osteoarthritis (OA) and other musculo-skeletal disorders. It can also be used for post-operative pain associated with surgery.

How is Previcox given?
Previcox is given orally in the form of a chewable tablet. This medication may be given with or without food.
Are there any potential side effects?
Some of the most common side effects include vomiting and lack of appetite. More serious side effects include change in bowel movements, changes in behaviour, lack of coordination, seizure, aggression, changes in energy levels, yellowing of skin or gums, change in skin conditions, change in drinking or urination habits, and unexpected weight loss.
If your pet experiences any serious side effects, contact your prescribing Veterinarian.
What if I miss giving my pet the medication?
If you miss a dose, you can give it when you remember. However, if it is near the time for the next dose, you can skip the dose you missed and give the medication at the next scheduled time. Do not give your pet two doses at once, and never give extra doses.
Are there any drug interactions I should be aware of?
Previcox should be used with caution with some medications, including but not limited to ACE inhibitors, aspirin, corticosteroids, digoxin, highly protein bound drugs, and methotrexate.
Please let your prescribing Veterinarian know if your pet is on any other medications, including vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies.
Is there any monitoring that needs to be done with this medication?
Your veterinarian may want to monitor your pet to check if the medication is effective. Some monitoring of the kidney function, liver enzymes, electrolytes, urinalysis, and physical examination may be required.

Are there any risk factors for this medication?
Pets that are allergic to firocoxib or other NSAIDs should not be given Previcox. It should be used with extreme caution if your pet has gastrointestinal ulcerations or bleeding disorders. Previcox should also be used cautiously in pets with kidney, liver, or heart disease, or pets that have low blood pressure, on diuretic medications, or dehydrated.
This medication should not be used in dogs that are smaller than 5.7kg, and/or younger than 7 months old.

How do I store Previcox?
Store below 30 degrees ( room temperature).
What should I do in case of emergency?
If there are serious reactions to the drug, or if you suspect an overdose, contact your local vet and/or local animal emergency service immediately.
